Wesley Junior College Places 2nd in ATLIB’s northern basketball competition

Congrats goes out to our Basketball Team who brought home silver from SJC gym last week. The St John’s Junior College boys won all their games emerged to win the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) northern regional basketball tournament at the SJC gym in Belize City last Saturday. The Corozal Junior College boys won Game 1 over the Muffles Junior College boys 54-53. Jarett Tillett led the CJC boys with 16 pts, and Scott Young contributed 14 pts, with Joshua Lima good for another 10pts. Kenmore Hyde led the Muffles’ boys with 25pts, including 2 treys with Walter Reyes good for 11 pts, and Ahmad El-Amin 9pts. SJC 6th form won Game 2 by a score of 77-51 against the Wesley Junior College boys.

SJC’s captain Michael Staine led the 6th formers attack with 25 pts, with Ryan Bennett contributing 18pts. Wesley’s Milton Flores top-scored the game with 31 pts. The SJCJC boys continued their victory roll as they won Game 3 over the Corozal Junior College boys 58-47. Freddy Gabourel and Ryan Bennett scored 14 pts each for SJCJC with, Ron Nicholson adding 9pts, and Haylock, Shane Reneau and Jaraad Ysaguirre good for 6 pts each. Randy Castellanos drained in 4 treys to top-score for CJC with 16pts, Scott Young also hit a trey as he added 11pts and Jarett Tillet chipped in 11pts too.

Wesley Junior College won game 4 over the Muffles Junor College boys 67-61. Milton Flores top-scored for WJC with 31 pts with Ekroy Yorke adding 21 pts more. MJC’s Kenmore Hyde scored 23 pts and Ahmad El-Amin added 20 pts. The SJCJC boys also won Game 5 over the Muffles Junior College boys 63-53. Michael Staine led with 13 pts, and Freddy Gabourel and Don Williams each scored 9 pt. MJC’s Kenmore Hyde sank 2 treys to top-score with 25 pts, and Ahmad El-Amin chipped in 11 pts.

Wesley College boys won Game 6 over the Corozal Junior College boys 62-41; Ekroy Yorke leading with 20 pts and Milton Flores contributed 18 pts. Ernesto Kerr adding another 6pts and Gilfred Magdaleno and John Marsden adding 5 pts each. CJC’s Scott Young scored 16 pts and Jarett Tillett added 10pts, T.C. Noble added 9 pts more.

The SJCJC and Wesley Junior College male & female teams will represent the northern region at the ATLIB national basketball tournament to be held at the SJC gym on Saturday, November 24. The Sacred Heart Junior College and the University of Belize male and female teams automatically to represent the southern region as there were no other contenders.
